Osteopathy - Movement & Function
An osteopath is a highly trained healthcare professional who completes a 5–6 year full-time program covering medical theory, anatomy, biomechanics, and extensive hands-on practice. Osteopathy is a primary healthcare profession—a system of diagnosis and treatment that addresses the root causes of discomfort and dysfunction in the body.
Osteopaths can treat a wide range of conditions, including back and neck pain, headaches, breathing and digestive issues, and even conditions in infants. They are particularly effective for pain management, often improving range of motion and reducing discomfort from the first session.
Sport osteopathy helps manage joint pain and injuries, enhances recovery, and plays a key role in injury prevention by identifying and treating imbalances or dysfunctions before they lead to pain or injury.
How osteopathy differs from other therapies:
-
Physiotherapy: Focuses on long-term rehabilitation, such as recovery after surgery or trauma, targeting the muscular system through exercises and manual therapy.
-
Chiropractic care: Primarily concentrates on the spine and joints. Osteopathy takes a holistic approach, addressing the whole body—muscles, joints, fascia, cranial system, and even digestive function—to treat the root cause of issues rather than just the symptoms.
At Functional Malta, our osteopaths combine expertise and a holistic approach to help you move better, recover faster, and stay pain-free.
Tecar Therapy

Tecar therapy is the most used device in sport teams for sport recovery and injury management and prevention.
It's technology is mainly based on the production of heat: Tecar stimulates the production of heat within the human body in order to speed up the healing process.
Tecar enhances blood flow, promotes inflammation reduction that reduces pain and accelerates tissue repair.
Unlike other machines, such as laser therapy and infrared thermotherapy, which use heat from outside (exogenous), Tecar machines use endogenous heat).
Tecar therapy is used as well during our massage selection for sports or relaxation.
Targeted areas: whole body.
